About

Joey Davenport in the studio

Hi, I'm Joey.

I'm a part-time, self-taught potter working out of my studio in South Jordan, Utah. I've been sketching on a potter's wheel off-and-on for over 20 years now, taking a leisurely road of making what I want and enjoying the pots I meet along the way.

Jocund Pottery is more than my own work. It's a way for my family to try running a business, and now and then we'll post what comes out of the studio for sale. Though honestly, I care more that someone ends up with something made by hand than that it came from me.

Most of my firings are cone 10 oxidation at home. Wood and gas are a treat, and usually start with hunting down a shelf in somebody else's kiln. I love glaze chemistry and spend a lot of my kiln time testing, and am more than curious about dirt on the side of the road.

I'm usually pretty eager to chat about clay, and always eager to take part in our community. If you're another potter or craftsperson, reach out.
